Arrive Chicago
Arrive into Chicago Airport and collect your rental car before making your way to your hotel and checking in for a two night stay. You have two days to explore the ‘Windy City’ and with such a wide range of attractions, it may be hard to fit them all in. Chicago is also famed for its Jazz and Blues music cene, so if you do nothing else, make sure to visit a club in the city where the music evolved. Overnight: Best Western Grant Park

Chicago - Springfield

‘Route 66’ awaits you today. The famed road that has lead, and still leads, travellers across the USA to California, has been around since the 1930s and has found fame in music as well as on the silver screen. Most of the towns on this self drive are places on the original route. These include Springfield, famed for being the home of Abraham Lincoln. Overnight: Springfield Hilton

Springfield - St. Louis (98 miles)
Follow the Mississippi down to St Louis. Here you will see the impressive Gateway Arch at it stands aside the river, symbolising America’s westward expansion. Take a ride to the top of this splendid piece of architecture or admire the view from below. Nearby is Laclede’s Landing, an area of bars and restaurants that occupy the red-brick buildings of the old docks and a fine place to spend the night. Overnight: Crowne Plaza Hotel

Tulsa/Broken Arrow - Amarillo (366 miles)
Heading across the Texas Panhandle you’ll come to the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. An area of spectacular beauty today, this is where Quannah Parker and his band of Commanches hid from the US Calvary in the 1800s. From here, find your way to Amarillo for an overnight stay. Las Vegas - Los Angeles (286 miles)
The final part of Route 66 ends just before the Pacific Ocean, but this tour takes you right to it. Route 66 turns into Sunset Boulevard and ends up in Santa Monica by its famous pier. This is where the road and the country ends. Next stop, Hawaii! Overnight: Best Western Gateway, Santa Monica
